Raffinerie Tirlemontoise is so much more than its famous hard sugar cube.
Raffinerie Tirlemontoise was founded in 1836. The Group is market leader in Belgium with a turnover of 575 million euro and has several branches dotted around the country. About 700 people process every year 3 - 3.5 million ton of sugar beets and produce 500.000 to 600.000 ton sugar for the industry (mainly bulk sugar) and for daily consumption (icing sugar, brown sugar etc.). No single part of the sugar beet is discarded in these processes: all the by-products of sugar production are used and given a second life in different agricultural processes.
In 1989 Raffinerie Tirlemontoise became a part of the Südzcuker AG Group, the largest sugar producer of Europe with a turnover of around 6 billion euro.
In 2011 we celebrated our 175th anniversary during which we emphasize one of our important values: developing a sustainable and profitable company.

In addition, our well thought-out transport and investment policy strives for a better environment and for a minimum impact of our activities for our communities. This is why we developed a transport charter for a sustainable beet transport and why the beets are cleaned on the field which leads to a reduction of 5.300 rides.
Furthermore, we invest in research and development to guarantee the best quality for our products and to improve existing and develop new products.
All of this is not possible without our people. To give them a safe and healthy work environment, we invest not only in training and evaluation, but also in safety and quality on the work floor.
